So, these individuals may suffer from frequent visitations at night by fear and panic.

In addition, other factors such as stress or irregular sleep schedule may also lead to nocturnal arousals. When a person is awakened from a deep sleep, they often sense a presence in the room and see, hear, feel, smell or even taste things that are not there. It will usually last for several seconds before the person “snaps out of it” and realize that they were dreaming.
